PART 1: One to One Sessions
You will be in a completely private space, free of distractions and relaxed in the knowledge that anything you say is strictly confidential. You have a choice of comfy chair or Le Corbusier recliner so you can put your feet up.
The sessions can be as structured or ‘free-flowing’ as is required, but often long-term goals need to be navigated around current, pressing issues. My job is to attend to the problem at hand whilst making sure that your future projects are not lost in the ‘noise’ of day-to-day living.
I may ask you to explore historical experiences and in addition, I may use psychoanalytic observations, to expose subconscious thoughts and emotions. I will be observing your body language, tone, choice of words, and emphasis as I seek to understand your predicament and how you are feeling.
I will take some written notes during the session and I will ask questions, where pertinent, to explore your emotional state and your self-perception.
Depending on the programme I have devised for you, part of the session might be dedicated to physical relaxation, vagus nerve stimulation, or CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I may also draw on creative techniques using music, art, literature and philosophy.
My sessions are a bit longer than average (1.5 hours), so there is no clock watching; letting people talk without feeling rushed is vitally important and I have made a point never to interrupt someone before they have reached a natural cadence in their thinking.
The goal of the session is that the person will have a therapeutic experience that leaves them feeling much better than when they arrived.
